Even climbing instructors benefit from coaching... Today I spent a few hours working on Anna Hearnden's lead climbing technique at the Quay Climbing Centre in Exeter. We covered falling technique and practice, clipping position, resting and staying relaxed, with Anna making good progress over the session.

For James' second mountain day I led him up the North Ridge of Tryfan, Bristly Ridge and then down Y Gribin. This is a classic circuit with some of the best easy scrambling in North Wales. We took in the major landmarks including monoliths Adam & Eve on Tryfan's summit, which James jumped across without hesitation to claim the "freedom of Tryfan", fitting as he was about to pass 2 years of freedom from addiction. A fantastic day out and one i'll remember for years to come.

James came up to stay with me in Snowdonia to get try his first mountain days. It was pouring with rain when he arrived so I took him on the Cadair Idris horseshoe which doesn't get too boggy or muddy. It's a great loop to walk in any weather and even has a large shelter just below the Penycadair summit for a mostly dry lunch stop. James was the inspiration for Clean Ascent and is almost 2 years clean.

I was up at Haytor on Dartmoor today, with Francesca Trofa and climbing instructors Laurence Coleman and Gareth Chalker. Gareth and I climbed the southwest classic, Aviation, which didn't disappoint.
Laurence, Gareth and myself are all working towards the Mountain Instructor Award so we're out climbing multi pitch routes whenever free time and suitable weather convene.

A weekend of climbing and abseiling for people in recovery, hosted by Clean Ascent and Ripple Effect Devon, with help from Tessa Adventure. We had three groups over the weekend, which was held at Hound Tor on Dartmoor. Everyone had a great time and really impressed us with their grit and determination. Four people who attended the weekend have been selected to receive two months of rock climbing tuition as part of the pilot for Clean Ascent.
